How to Manage Your Social Media Accounts When You’re on Holiday

As the holidays approach, you may be wondering how you’re going to stay active on your social media networks when there’s so much good food to be eating. Luckily, it’s easy to stay engaged and curate content during the holidays if you know the right techniques.

Why it’s Important to be Active

For most of us, social is ingrained into our daily life. We’re constantly engaged on social media and have clients and customers that expect us to be online and reachable 24/7. Over the holidays there’s a lot of downtimes, and it’s a habit to immediately open the Twitter app without even thinking about it. Because of this, it’s safe to assume that your followers, prospective customers and current clients are doing the same. Additionally, most businesses are posting less during the holidays so it is more likely your posts will be read. Thus, it’s important to remain active on your social networks over the holidays. We know you don’t want to be working during your break but it’s still important to be sending out content. However, you can relax slightly because this is not the time to contact people trying to sell them something. Instead, post great evergreen content and take some time to think about the year that has passed.

How to be Active

As we mentioned above, most of us are so used to being constantly active on these social networks we may open the Twitter or Facebook app without thinking.  Thus, another easy way to stay on top of the holiday conversation is by going mobile. Having these apps on your phone makes it easier to engage with your followers as well as send out cute pictures of you playing in the snow, or relaxing on the beach (yay, that doesn’t sound too difficult!). You don’t need to feel like you have to constantly be curating content around your industry or product. The holidays are the perfect time to show the human-side of your business. Also consider toying around with the notifications on these apps to determine when you want to be alerted.

How to Free up Your Time

In addition to going mobile, scheduling is essential if you want to stay active on your social networks while enjoying your well-earned vacation. Before you jet off, take some time to curate content that you want to release over the holidays. By using applications like Buffer or Hootsuite, you’re able to curate content that can slowly be posted over the course of your holiday. Additionally, if you get the content curation out of the way, this frees up your time to engage with your audience instead of stressing out in your hotel about what blog, infographic, or report you should post. If you’re really struggling to find great content, and don’t want post pictures of your holiday outings, consider asking your followers how they’re celebrating the holidays, or what they’re looking forward to eating (so many sugar cookies). People are excited to be on vacation, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to be off of their social networks. Being accessible and engaging with them is still just as important as ever, perhaps more so since everyone is sitting on their couch pulling down that refresh button!

So put your sales tactics and marketing strategies on the back burner for the holidays! Instead, focus on scheduling that content beforehand in order to free up your time to really connect with your followers…oh and don’t forget to relax!
